The Brearley Philosophers' Club (BPC)

Ethicizing Our World

ACTIVITIES

Meetings
The Brearley Philosophers' Club conducts weekly meetings in the form of open group discussions and debates for students on subjects of interest.

The Adopt-a-Philosopher Program
The Adopt-a-Philosopher Program allows members to learn more about a favorite or interesting philosopher by researching their ideas and personal biography. Members introduce their "adopted" philosophers during BPC's weekly meetings.

Our First School Assembly
The Brearley Philosophers' Club's (BPC) inaugural assembly was held on December 14, 2006. Upper School students and faculty viewed "The Faces of Ethics: Ethics at Work," a documentary featuring professionals within and outside the school who responded to two questions: 1.) What makes an ethical person? and 2.) How do you apply ethics in your work? Please see photo in the photo gallery.

Out-of-School Events
BPC members supplement our in-school learning and meetings by attending lectures and seminars in and around the city. Recent events include the IHEU-Appignani Center for Bioethics' "Cognitive Liberty in the Biotechnology Era." Please see photos in the photo gallery. Past events that members have attended include the Columbia Center for Bioethics' Third Anniversary Lecture, among others.
